Origin of Omkareshwar
Sashya Shyamala is the twelve Jyotirlinga of Lord Shankar in the land of India. The glory and mahalya of each Jyotirlinga is unique in itself. In these Jyotirlingas, the following is the description of the Jyotirlinga located in Kareshwar of Lord Mahadev and its glory.
Once upon a time Muni Shrestha Narad, Giriraj Vinya had come. Vinya proudly said after worship - "I have all the facilities." Narad Muni heaved a long sigh after listening to such arrogant words of his. Seeing this, Vinya asked, "What do you see lacking in me?"
Naradji said- "You have everything here, yet Mount Meru is much higher than you. Part of its peaks have reached the worlds of the gods as well. Hearing this Vinya Parvat, his heart became angry" My life is cursed. " And to get the desired result, Vindhya decided to do penance by worshiping Lord Shiv Shankar. Going to the place where the Onkar Linga is actually situated, Vinya made an idol of Shiva and worshiped Lord Shiva continuously for six months. During that he did not even move from the place of penance.
Vinay said - "Deveshwar Shambho! If you are pleased with me, then give me the desired intelligence, which is going to prove my work." Lord Shiva gave him this boon and said- "Parvatraj Vinya! Do as you wish. At the same time, the gods and sages came there after worshiping Shankarji and said - "Lord! It would be better if you reside here permanently."
Hearing this request of the deities, Lord Shiva gladly did the same. There, there was only one Omkar Linga, it got divided into two forms. Sadashiv, who was in Pranab, became famous by the name Omkar and Shiva-Jyoti, which was established in Parthiv Linga, was known as Parmeshwar, Amareshwar, Mamleshwar. In this way, Omkar and Parameshwara, these two Shivlings are going to give desired results to the devotees.

Due to the effect of this pilgrimage, he was attained by the king of Yakshas and Siddhi. At the famous confluence of the Kaveri and the Narmada, mighty Kuber bathed and worshiped the eternal Lord Mahadev in a ritually prescribed manner. Kubera fasted one day in a week and then one day on the side. Spent some time eating fruits. Kuber had done penance for a hundred years, free from all kinds of work and attachment. Then Lord Shankar was very pleased with his penance and asked Kuber to ask for a boon.
Kuber asked for a boon that "I should always remain the king of the Yakshas. May I always be healthy and live long." Lord Shankar said 'Amen' and disappeared. Kuber returned after saluting that pilgrimage.
This confluence is the gate to all the heavens. One who bathes in the Kaveri Sangam and gives water mixed with sesame seeds to the ancestors, his birth and life become elevated. Devotional bath, charity and worship done by a man in Kaveri Sangam is going to give more results than Ashwamedha Yagya.
